  • What is a NEDLAW Living Wall?
    A NEDLAW Living Wall is an indoor air biofilter that creates better indoor spaces by cleaning air with the same processes that nature uses. Its patented system utilizes green plants and beneficial microbes to produce high quality indoor air and beautiful plantscapes.
  • How does a NEDLAW Living Wall work?
    A diverse mixture of ferns, foliage and flowering plants are planted into a synthetic media. The installation connects to an air handling system that draws ‘dirty’ air through the root zone of the plants. Beneficial micro-organisms growing in the root zone utilize airborne pollutants as food and break them down into water and carbon dioxide. Clean air is then distributed throughout the indoor space.
  • How is a NEDLAW Living Wall different from other Living Walls?
    A NEDAW Living Wall is the only ‘living wall’ that acts as both a biofilter and plantscape to actively remove chemicals, dust and spores from indoor air, returning fresh air to the living environment. Science and art combine to deliver quality indoor air in an aesthetic and sustainable manner.
  • Where are living walls used?
    NEDLAW Living Wall systems have been developed and installed in corporate offices, educational institutions, civic, health and municipal facilities, as well as retail, food and leisure operations. There is also increasing interest in residential use of living walls.
  • How much do NEDLAW Living Walls cost?
    NEDLAW Living Walls come in different sizes and while most are custom designed, developed and installed, Nedlaw does offer standard sized units for offices and homes. Installations have ranged in size from 20 square feet to over 2000 square feet. Because they are custom designed for each space based on size, finishings, location and other considerations, the price associated with each NEDLAW Living Wall varies.
  • How does a NEDLAW Living Wall contribute to indoor air quality? Don’t plants do the same thing?
    A NEDLAW Living Wall connects to an air handling system that draws ‘dirty’ air through the root zone of the plants. Beneficial micro-organisms growing in the root zone utilize airborne pollutants as food and break them down into water and carbon dioxide. In essence, a NEDLAW Living Wall removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by combining the processes of biofiltration and phytoremediation. Clean air is then distributed throughout the indoor space. Plants do not have the same effect as it is the patented NEDLAW system that is able to bring air through the root structure that cleans the air.
  • How is a NEDLAW Living Wall maintained? How much maintenance is required?
    A NEDLAW Living Wall is maintained via regularly scheduled maintenance. It is recommended that this be carried out at least once a month, although some clients choose more frequent maintenance based on individual circumstances. Maintenance focuses on both the mechanical and living/plant components of a NEDLAW Living Wall system. Plants used in a NEDLAW Living Wall system are expected to have about a 90% survival rate from year to year, however, this is largely dependent on the choice of plants and local conditions
  • Are pesticides used in NEDLAW Living Walls?
    No, pesticides are not used in NEDLAW Living Walls. We emphasize management practices and biological controls that are organic in nature.
  • What plants are used in a NEDLAW Living Wall?
    Rather than trying to duplicate a particular outdoor ecosystem, NEDLAW Living Walls are designed for the unique indoor environment. The plants used in our walls have been selected for their adaptations to the moderate temperature, humidity and light conditions typically found indoors. Although some are exotic and unusual plants, most are quite common. Species diversity gives the system ecological stability. This is very important in order to give the ecosystem the ability to deal with a broad range of potential challenges in the indoor setting. Some NEDLAW Living Walls may include some native plants. However, most native plants do not survive well indoors. Plants adapt to their local climate and, as such, generally require the different seasons to grow properly. For most native plants to survive indoors, the climate in the wall would have to mimic these seasons, making routine use of the space difficult and its performance irregular.
  • What are the benefits of a NEDLAW Living Wall?
